State-of-the-art developments in the catalyzed layer of the MEA, for both PEM and DMFC systems.
Manufacturing of catalysts (old and new) and of catalyzation processes, particularly with regard
to material and manufacturing cost. Deposition of the catalyst layer onto the gas diffusion
layer or the polymer electrolyte membrane. Manufacturing processes which address long-term
stability of the catalyst.

Crucial to MEA manufacturing is the ability to monitor each process step, to ensure quality and reproducibility of the final product. Characterization, test and evaluation methods which can be used during manufacturing to ensure quality control of all MEA components, as well as the final product. Testing applies not only to the manufacturing process and end product, but also testing of the raw materials and the process environment to ensure process consistency (e.g. high volume inspection techniques). |
