Alternative Energy Group

What is Alternative Energy?

Alternative Energy is an emerging industrial sector, growing throughout the world and presenting dynamic commercial opportunities for supply chain participants. As the name suggests, it represents a group of technologies that serve as alternatives to conventional energy sources derived from combustion of hydrocarbons such as coal, natural gas and petroleum. Alternative energy certainly includes renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, wind, wave, geothermal and biomass, but may also include clean, efficient methods of converting hydrocarbons such as gasification with or without carbon sequestration. The importance of alternative energy to the United States cannot be overstated because of our current dependence on imported fuels and the burgeoning global demand for energy.

The Alternative Energy Group

By it's charter, some of EMTEC's roles are to stimulate, facilitate and assist small to medium-sized Ohio businesses with the commercialization of advanced materials and manufacturing process technology. Opportunities to stand up new technology-based businesses are frequently found in the ranks of emerging industries such as alternative energy. To introduce ourselves to the alternative energy industry sector, EMTEC has for the past four years focused on just one of the emerging alternative energy technologies: hydrogen fuel cells.

Recent Changes

During the past two years, we expanded our alternative energy interests, group size and expertise beyond fuel cells and hydrogen to include clean energy from hydrocarbons, wind, hydro, solar, biomass and refuse derived fuel alternatives. In keeping with our expanded mission, EMTEC's Fuel Cell Technology Group became the Alternative Energy Technology Group on July 1, 2006. This site explains our current direction and program focus in the various alternative energy fields. Please browse around and contact us here if you have any questions.
